Education

Formation in the Orthodox faith is a lifelong journey. At Christ the Savior, we offer opportunities for learning and growth rooted in the Scriptures, the Holy Fathers, and the liturgical life of the Church.

Orthodox Fundamentals

Orthodox Fundamentals is our weekly adult education program, held every Sunday morning following the Divine Liturgy. Drawing on Scripture, the writings of the Holy Fathers, and the Church's liturgical and sacramental life, each session is designed to deepen the faith of the baptized and to open a door for those who are new to Orthodoxy.

Topics rotate throughout the year and may include topics such as the meaning of the Divine Liturgy, the theology of the icons, fasting and prayer, the Creed, the seven Ecumenical Councils, and the lives of the saints. No prior background in Orthodox theology is required — all are welcome.

Sunday School

Our Sunday School program for middle and high school students meets after the Divine Liturgy on Sunday mornings. At this formative age, students engage more deeply with the content of the Orthodox faith — exploring Scripture, Church history, the sacraments, and Orthodox ethics — through discussion, reading, and reflection.

The program aims to equip young people to articulate and live their faith with confidence, preparing them for a lifetime of conscious, active participation in the life of the Church.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is a contemplative, Montessori-based approach to religious formation for young children. Rooted in the conviction that children possess a natural capacity for wonder, silence, and a personal relationship with God, CGS creates a carefully prepared environment — called an atrium — in which children encounter the essentials of the faith through hands-on materials, Scripture, and liturgical gesture rather than through lectures or workbooks.

Children work at their own pace with materials drawn from the Gospels, the Psalms, and the sacramental life of the Church. The parable of the Good Shepherd, the imagery of the light and the vine, the gestures of the Divine Liturgy — these become touchstones that the child returns to with growing depth across the years. The role of the catechist is not to instruct but to present and to accompany, allowing the child's own interior life to unfold.

Adult Inquirers

Those who are exploring Orthodoxy for the first time are warmly welcomed. Our clergy are available to answer questions and meet with inquirers personally. Please reach out to the parish office to begin the conversation.
